The Big Lake Winterhawks faced tough competition in the Midget Tier II state tournament at the McDonald Ice Arena in Eagle River over the weekend.

The Winterhawks suffered several close losses and two ties in the tourney.

"They played hard, but lost close games," Winterhawk head coach Lew Dischner said. "They fought and pushed through until the end."

Dishner noted that the younger players on the squad had strong performances in the tournament. Dischner acknowledged the play of Chase Korsmo, Nathan Englund, James Hundley and Spencer Syverston, all of whom are expected to return next year.
