Retiring teacher, coach urges Colony grads to ‘find their 68’

To the editor:
And it came to pass that wise men came from the east to Jerusalem saying “where is he that is born king of the Jews?”
Who were they?
Possibly Zoroastrian astrologers from Persia (Iran) — just ignorant pagans.
What would they know?
According to one theologian, they were observing a conjunction of two planets: one representing a ruler and the other the land of Judea. So kissing their bewildered wives and frightened children goodbye, they struck out across the desert with the gifts they hoped to offer firmly in hand.
What would they know — stupid pagans — with nothing to do but look at the stars. But as the story goes, their instincts were not to go unrewarded. By the guiding light they were able to avoid the lair of the vicious paranoid king. They found their way to a simple dwelling in which was discovered a very young man-child. No matter, with great joy they offered their gifts of gold, frankincense and myrrh. Then they returned home in peace.
As one dear saint said to her fellow congregants, “I’m so glad it says in the Bible, ‘it came to pass’ because I know that whatever trials I have, they will soon pass.’”
Today there are those who recoil at stories such as these. How could any intelligent person strike out ahead of the crowd on such an adventure as this? Don’t they know that truly intelligent people always wait for the crowd?
Perhaps we can only hope that those who are so committed to “political correctness” that they feel compelled to reject this story in the public forum, vis-a-vis the elementary school, can learn a lesson from this misguided saint and understand that their foolish “group think” has only “come to pass.”
