ANCHORAGE — The Glacier View Wolverines posted a fifth-place finish during the ASAA/First National Bank Mixed 6 State Volleyball Championships at Dimond High School in Anchorage on Saturday.
Wainwright defeated Glacier View 3-1 (25-22, 25-18, 23-25, 25-22) in the third-place match.
Glacier View, a school located along the Glenn Highway north of Chickaloon, made its first appearance in the state tournament. The first-year program, which qualified by winning the Southwestern Conference title last month, opened tourney play with a 3-0 (25-17, 25-15, 25-11) win over Golovin. Point Hope, which won its third straight state title on Saturday, beat Glacier View 3-0 (25-12, 25-22, 25-19) in the semifinals.
Carlen Thiessen was named to the all-tournament team for the Wolverines, who also won the tourney’s sportsmanship award.
