PALMER — Eagle River goalie Ryan Gray made a combined 33 saves during the first two periods, but Wasilla found a way to get past the Wolves during the final day of the Palmer Hockey Showdown.
The Warriors edged Eagle River 2-1 Saturday at the MTA Events Center in Palmer.
Wasilla scored both of its goals during the middle frame to improve to 2-1 in the three-day, three-game, round-robin tournament. Wasilla outshot the Wolves 43-19 in the win, and 35-5 in the first two periods. Gray made 20 saves in the first and 15 in the second. Wasilla held Eagle River to just two shots in the first and three in the second.
Holden Wiltfong and Hayden Masterson each scored for the Warriors,
Tucker Lien scored the lone goal for the Wolves.
Eagle River collected 14 of its 19 shots in the third period. Sean Carney finished with 18 saves for the Warriors.
Eagle River finished 1-2 in its three days in Palmer.
The Wolves scored their lone win in the tournament against the host Moose, beating Palmer 5-1. Ty McEnaney notched the hat trick for Eagle River. Michael Maddox and Lien added goals.
Eagle River opened the tournament with a 4-3 loss to Homer. Lien gave the Wolves a 3-2 lead early in the third, but the Mariners scored a pair of unanswered goals to earn the win. Austin Linn and Nick Silance also scored for ERHS.
