Alaska State Troopers report they stopped a Wasilla woman — identified as Megan Soczka, 27 — after a REDDI report was called in on a black BMW sedan near the intersection of the Parks Highway and Church Road at 9:25 a.m., Dec. 6.
According to a trooper dispatch, troopers encountered the BMW driving recklessly on Church Road when the driver swerved toward the responding trooper and nearly caused a head-on collision.
The vehicle drove into the oncoming lane and then off of the roadway into the ditch. It stopped near Spruce Avenue.
Troopers say a 3-year-old was found in the back seat of the BMW without a car seat or safety belt. Investigation revealed that Soczka was driving the vehicle while impaired and under the influence of drugs.
Soczka was arrested for assault for nearly causing a head-on collision with the trooper, DUI-drugs and endangering the welfare of a minor.
She was transported and remanded to Mat-Su Pre-Trial Facility and held on $2,500 bail, plus a court-appointed third party to watch over her.
The child was transported to Mat-Su Regional Medical Center for evaluation and was later released without injuries.
