Woman charged after shooting incident

WASILLA -- Wasilla police say an apparent fit of jealousy was the impetus for a shooting incident Tuesday night that led to the arrest of an Anchorage woman.

Yian S. Saelee, 24, is charged with two counts of third-degree assault, a felony, and is being held at Mat-Su Pre-Trial Facility in lieu of $10,000 bail and a court-approved third-party custodian. She was arraigned Wednesday in Palmer District Court.

According to Wasilla Police Chief Charlie Fannon, Saelee was near BJ Mall on Parks Highway in Wasilla around 11:55 p.m. when she spied her former boyfriend, who was in a car with another woman.

In front of the EZ Clippers hair salon, Saelee reportedly pulled out a Colt Mustang semiautomatic pistol and began to shoot at the left front tire of her ex-boyfriend's car and then chased the other woman with the gun.

Fannon said Saelee then placed the weapon on the hood of a car. A well-meaning bystander picked up the gun. When he tried to empty the pistol of ammunition, the man accidentally discharged the gun and shot between his legs.

No one was hurt, Fannon said, and Saelee was taken into custody without incident.

This is the third time in three weeks that Wasilla police have responded to calls involving guns, the police chief said.

Several weeks ago, four teens, including two 14-year-old girls, were arrested for armed robbery after they allegedly held four people at gunpoint on two occasions and stole their backpacks and other items.

Last Friday, two 13-year-old Wasilla Middle School students were charged with assault after they allegedly threatened a group of teen-agers with handguns after school.
