WASILLA — A Wasilla woman has been cited for illegally feeding moose after an aggressive ungulate was shot on her property.

According to Alaska State Troopers, Mary Beall, 53, was issued a citation on April 16 for the offence, which allegedly occurred in March.

A trooper dispatch about the incident said Wildlife Troopers were called to the Settlers Bay area on March 27 for a report that an aggressive moose had been shot after charging someone. A subsequent investigation found that homeowners in the area had been feeding several moose in the weeks leading up to the shooting. Further, a Facebook video was discovered showing a cow and calf moose being fed at the same residence where the shooting occurred.

The online dispatch included a stern warning against feeding animals.

“Alaskans are reminded that feeding game is illegal and often makes animals aggressive and dangerous to people and pets,” troopers wrote.
