MAT-SU — A Wasilla woman currently in jail for other offenses was convicted Wednesday of food stamp fraud.
A judge sentenced Jazmine Wheaton, 32, to 18 months incarceration with 15 months suspended for fraud committed between April 2008 and September 2009, according to press release from the Division of Public Assistance Fraud Investigation Unit. Wheaton resided in Juneau at the time the fraud was committed, and faced charges in Juneau court, according to the Juneau Empire.
According to the press release, Wheaton under-reported the amount of income her and her husband were receiving.
Wheaton is currently in the Mat-Su Pre-Trial Facility in Palmer facing charges of resisting or interfering with arrest by force, fourth degree assault, and driving with a cancelled, suspended, or revoked license.
The charges are all Class A misdemeanors. If convicted of all present counts, Wheaton faces up to three years incarceration and $30,000 in fines.
