Woman tries to hide fugitive from troopers

WASILLA — As a woman lied to Alaska State Troopers, telling them he wasn’t there, a Wasilla man tried to slip out a back window Wednesday.

According to an AST press statement, troopers with a warrant showed up to a house on Schulz Drive at 9:15 p.m. looking for Lance Larue, 31. Bethany Lawrence, 24, of Wasilla, answered the door.

“Lawrence denied Larue was in the residence and told troopers she was unaware of his location,” troopers report.

But while they talked to Lawrence, Larue tried to slip out a back window. He was arrested instead. His warrant was for failure to appear in court and violating his probation on a failure to stop for a peace officer charge. His bail was set at $27,500.

His failure to stop for an officer charges date back to 2010 when he briefly fled from troopers who were trying to pull him over for having mismatched plates. He had a warrant then, too, for failing to appear in court on a suspended license charge.

Lawrence, meanwhile, was jailed for hindering prosecution on $2,500 bail. She’ll need to find someone to watch her before she can be released.

Lawrence and Larue were both still at the Mat-Su Pre-Trial Facility as of Thursday afternoon.
