To the editor:
When WASI came to the city of Wasilla requesting a grant of $36,000 for the Nutrition Program, city council member Dianne Woodruff, a fiscal conservative and Certified Public Accountant, did what I would expect any conscientious council member to do: she requested the financial reports that would reveal the extent of the need. Although the CPA on the WASI board assured her that the reports would be easy to generate, it took months before the management at WASI was willing to release the information.
Using her knowledge, skills and expertise as a CPA, Dianne was able to decipher these reports and determine that there wasn’t any need in the Nutrition Program. No one has disputed this finding.
Trusting Dianne’s analysis, support fizzled on the Wasilla City Council for the grant to WASI. Thanks to Dianne, the city was saved $36,000.
Some people associated with WASI seem to not have “forgiven” Dianne for her due diligence as a city council member, however.
It is because Dianne has the expertise and takes the time to do the research that I am voting for Dianne Woodruff for mayor.
