The World Day of Prayer is being celebrated locally with a noon program Friday at St. Bartholomew Episcopal Church in Palmer.
Each year, the program for the World Day of Prayer rotates among the Valley's churches.
"We rotate the responsibility for hosting it and invite as many churches to participate as possible," said Jessie DeVries, one of the program's organizers.
There will be a short program at noon, followed by a light lunch. Nationally, the event is sponsored by Church Women United. Although there is not a local affiliate, DeVries said much of the material comes from the national organization.
Each year, the program is written by women from a different country. This year, women in Poland came up with the written program. The theme is "Let Our Light Shine."
The World Day of Prayer is a free event, and open to those of all religions. For more information, interested people may call DeVries at 745-3843.
