Wasilla’s Steve Hubacek, holding his Guinness Book of World Records certificate, stands with Wasilla Mayor Verne Rupright after the mayor read a proclamation in recognition of Hubacek’s accomplishment growing a world-record cabbage. Hubacek grew a record-smashing 125.9-pound cabbage in 2009. Two days later, he tipped the scale again with a 127-pound monster. “It is great of Wasilla to recognize this,” said Hubacek Monday night after receiving the proclamation. Hubacek is hoping for a good growing season this year. “I am looking forward to a better summer. I know there is a 135-to-160-pound cabbage out there. I just don’t know if it will be this year.” Although weather conditions last summer weren’t prime to duplicate his world-record performance, Hubacek repeated as the state fair champ with a 105.6-pound head.
