WASILLA — Sgt. Joshua Revak, a Wounded Warrior Fellow assigned to Congressman Don Young’s office, is the keynote speaker at this year’s Greater Wasilla Chamber of Commerce “Salute to the Armed Forces” luncheon at the Curtis D. Menard Memorial Sports Center beginning at 11:30 a.m., May 17.
Chamber President David Johnston said the annual event, co-sponsored by the city of Wasilla and the Armed Forces YMCA, includes a meet-and-greet, flag ceremonies, patriotic music, proclamations and special gifts for all uniformed military present.
U.S. Rep. Young has been invited to attend and introduce Revak, his military and veterans affairs liaison. Revak has received two Purple Hearts and three Army Commendation Medals along with many decorations while serving in Operation Iraqi Freedom.
He also has played music for several memorial services of fallen comrades. He continues to perform and record for various audiences, including The Pentagon, the Huckabee Show and the Grand Ole Opry.
Military Affairs Chair James Hastings said he expects about 50 uniformed guests from Joint Base Elemendorf Fort Richardson, the Alaska National Guard and local armed forces recruiters. Chamber members and friends are hosting those in uniform as well as providing door prizes.
