Writers want more government

To the editor:

Friday’s comments to the editor and the religion views covered a lot of ground. It seems mostly, though, they were all pushing for some more “government” control of our lives.

Marti Bradley’s tirade about health care could have been written by the Obama administration.

I’ve not traveled extensively, only to the Far East, Central Europe and the Middle East, and I still think we have the best health care in the world. My friends in Canada think so too.

Then John Sonin jumps on capitalism. His missive could have been written by Karl Marx. Who ultimately pays for our government (and health care) but capitalism? (Us.) I know, just have “the government” print more money. Capitalism isn’t a failure, but some of the people involved (including government) seem to want to make it a failure.

Then Howard Bess tells us we could be a better nation. Yes, we could, but we need to straighten out some of our government institutions first.

Never mind that we give more of our personal finances to charity, nor that we spend more of our personal money around the world trying to help poor people have a better life. (Mostly blocked by their own governments.)

Yep, “We have met the enemy and he is us.” (Or maybe the politicians?)
