Alaskans have until March 15 to nominate youths ages 16 to 18 for YWCA’s “Young People of Achievement Awards” which recognize Anchorage and Mat-Su youth who have overcome major obstacles in their lives, and who have made efforts toward fulfilling the mission of the YWCA: to eliminate racism, empower women and promote peace, justice, freedom and dignity for all.
The 10 selected honorees will receive a cash award up to $500, and recognition at the Young People of Achievement Awards.
Nomination forms are online at ywcaak.org. Youths may nominate themselves or someone else can nominate eligible young people.
Application packets must be received by March 15 via email to kobrien@ywcaak.org, hand-delivered to the YWCA’s Anchorage office at 324 E. 5th Ave., or received by mail at YWCA Alaska: YPOA Selection Committee, 324 E. 5th Avenue, Anchorage, AK 99501.
The application packet requires a completed nomination form, one letter of recommendation, or contact information for an adult (of no relation) who is willing to be a reference, three short essays biography, obstacles and how they’ve fulfilled one or more component of the YWCA’s mission.
