Your inaction will cost you

To the editor:

We are Republicans and therefore fiscal conservatives who support the candidacy of Larry DeVilbiss, Bob Doyle and David Glines.

We believe a competitive marketplace will drive the economy of this borough. The key component to a developing, competitive marketplace is low-cost electric energy. Power is our resource and should be managed by us, the ratepayers, not special interest groups.

The Matanuska Electric Association board has three regional seats available and it needs conservative and fiscally responsible representatives to participate in the utility that benefits all of our ratepayers, not just the special interests. The candidates who have declared their total allegiance to the ratepayer are Larry DeVilbiss, Bob Doyle and David Glines.

As district chair leader, I emphasize the importance of Alaska’s standing record of exemplary stewardship of the land, which demonstrates that responsible development of our resources can be compatible with our unique environment. However, we can’t progress without affordable, reliable power and a board of directors that openly welcomes the MEA members they represent (you, the ratepayer) to their meetings. We are the owners of our electric system and we must not tolerate special interest demands.

What can you do? Vote for Bob Doyle, Larry DeVilbiss and David Glines. Have your ballot in the mail no later than April 25. It must be received through the mail by April 27. Call a friend and encourage them to do the same. Join with us to grow our borough, electrify the base at the grassroots and unite as the strong voice of concerned citizens that will stand against union and greenie control of our utility. It is your responsibility to vote for candidates who will protect the members’ investment and pocketbooks. You may also attend the annual meeting and vote at 7 p.m. Tuesday in Raven Hall at the Alaska State Fairgrounds.

We also ask for a no vote on Ballot Proposition 2. This proposition is designed to protect union advocates. It also sets the conflict–of-interest bar so high the board could be totally taken over by IBEW Union members (anyone making less than $250,000 per year).

Be a solid contributor, investor and active participant in securing energy for our future and the next generation. Vote for DeVilbiss, Doyle and Glines; vote no on Proposition 2. Your kids and grandkids will thank you.
