Youth athletes ready for games

ANCHORAGE — More than 600 student athletes will compete this weekend at the 43rd annual Native Youth Olympic Games Alaska at the Dena’ina Civic and Convention Center.

Teams from schools throughout the state will demonstrate their strength, agility and skills in 10 traditional Alaska Native games such as the one-foot high kick, Eskimo stick pull and seal hop.

Opening ceremonies were Thursday and events — including a pilot bread recipe contest — continue Friday and Saturday. A full schedule is online at bit.ly/ZPP2KY. Admission is free.

Instant event results will be available at citci.org and Cook Inlet Tribal Council’s social media sites.
