PALMER — Ehmann Outdoors has partnered with Cabela’s and Alaska Department of Fish and Game to host a kids fishing day Saturday at Elklutna Tailrace near Palmer.

ADFG has opened a portion of the Eklutna Tailrace, located at Mile 3.5 Old Glenn Highway, for youth-only fishing Saturday from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. Anglers 15 and younger can fish the section of the water, a portion from the confluence with the Knik River upstream to the pedestrian bridge. The remainder of the tailrace will be open for fishing for all ages, according to a press release issued by ADFG Thursday.

The bag and possession limit is three coho salmon 16 inches or longer, and three in possession. For fish less than 16 inches, the bag and possession limit is 10.

Volunteers will be available to help children with basic fishing techniques. Anglers are responsible for providing their own equipment. There will also be instruction about knot tying, casting, cleaning and fish identification.

Those in search of more information or those interested in volunteering can email ehmannoutdoors@gmail.com.
