Yukon Tails Mobile Pet Grooming offers at-home services for the Mat-Su Valley.
Pet owners can provide their dogs with professional grooming from the comfort of their own driveway. Founder and Owner Teela Bieschke started Yukon Tails Mobile Pet Grooming after experiencing issues booking a grooming service for her own dog.
“I tried to reach out to a mobile groomer and got wait-listed, never really heard back,” Bieschke said. “And just kind of kept hearing and realizing that there's a need for this service in the Valley and that there aren't many people doing it.”
The importance for providing these services, according to Bieschke, is convenience for both the dog and their owner.
“I had an elderly dog,” Bieschke said. “She had mobility issues, so it was hard to get her into the vehicle to get her to the dog washer, to get her a bath that was comfortable.”
Bieschke pointed out that owners that may have mobility issues or complications that prevent taking their pets to a groomer may benefit as well.
Bieschke began working with the Alaska Small Business Development Center (ASBDC) in February of 2024 to generate business projections and create a plan to raise funding. Bieschke worked with Indiana-based Wag’n Tails Mobile Conversions to purchase a retrofitted, all-wheel drive mobile pet grooming van. Bieschke drove it from Indiana to Alaska with her daughter in September.
“The van is entirely self-contained,” Bieschke said. “We have heat, hot water, a generator and all the tools that may be needed.”
Bieschke and groomer Morgan Queripel scheduled their first groom for September 24. They celebrated a ribbon cutting ceremony with the Greater Wasilla Chamber of Commerce on October 21.
Grooming packages vary in price depending on the size of the dog. Packages include a bath, brushing and nail trimming. Add-on services include ear cleaning, tooth brushing and de-shedding. Pet owners can book directly through the Yukon Tails Mobile Pet Grooming website or over the phone and arrange for them to meet them at their home or at work.
Yukon Tails Mobile Pet Grooming currently offers services in Palmer and Wasilla and their nearby communities. There has been interest further from town and certain accommodations can be made.
The response from the community has been “amazing,” according to Bisechke.
“The schedule just continues to fill up,” Bieschke said. “Everybody's excited about the idea and the service being available.”
Bieschke would like to grow her business in the future to include more vans and employ more groomers. Bieschke also announced that they will be offering nail trim clinics at the PetZoo locations in both Palmer and Wasilla. She plans to give back to the community by helping with local animal shelters and providing services for dogs there.
“We're just excited to be here and providing the service to the Valley,” Bieschke said.
