Two veteran Mat-Su legislators, Sen. David Wilson and Rep. David Eastman, were trailing their challengers in early vote counts Tuesday night. Although most precincts had reported results there were still absentee and challenged ballots to be counted, so results could yet change.
As Wednesday morning, Wilson, in Senate District N, had 28.7% of votes cast while his challenger, Robert Yundt, had 53.5%. Most precincts were reporting, so this race may be decided.
In David Eastman’s House District 27, challenger Jubilee Underwood had lead with 51.07% of the vote to Eastman’s 47.69%. Absentee ballots could change this.
In House District 28, Elexie Moore was leading Steve Menard with 37.2% of the vote for Moore and 35.9% of the vote for Menard. Both are Republican.
In House District 30, Kevin McCabe, the incumbent, led his challenger, Doyle Holmes, with 53.9% of the vote to 44.75%. McCabe is likely reelected. Both are Republican.
Statewide, Democrat Mary Peltola appears to be in trouble. In the Wednesday morning count her main challenger, Nick Begich, had 49.6% of the vote to Peltola’s 45.27%, with 93% of the ballots cast statewide counted.
However, absentee ballots could change the numbers, and many of the votes yet to be counted are likely from rural communities where Peltola should make a strong showing.
