Palmer resident Zelma Ellenberger, 92, died Jan. 1, 2004, at her home in Palmer. A memorial service was held Jan. 10, 2004, at the Bodenburg Butte Baptist Church with Pastor Jerry Burton officiating. Burial will be at a later date in Florida.
Mrs. Ellenberger was born Oct. 17, 1911, in Onaway, Mich. She came to Alaska in April 2002, and resided in Palmer until her death. She was a member of the Baptist Church.
Her family wrote: "She had an innate sense of what was needed in the event of a death, sorrow, hardship or with the joy of a new baby in the neighborhood. She was always there with a word of comfort and a hot dish, be it a casserole, cinnamon rolls or a helping hand. She cared for all with a thought of payment or praise."
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law Sue and Albert Morgan of Palmer, seven grandchildren, five step-grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, numerous step-great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews and friends through-out the U.S.
