A. Marie Morris (Hickam) passed away peacefully in her Palmer, Alaska home on Sept. 1, 2016 after a courageous three-year battle with cancer.
Marie was born on Jan. 3, 1948 in Tracy, California to Willa Dean and Chester Hickam. As a child, Marie moved with her family to Roseburg, Oregon where she grew up and met and married Clifton Morris. A talented cosmetologist, Marie owned a beauty shop in Roseburg before she, Clifton and their two young sons moved to Alaska in 1991. As a bus attendant for Laidlaw in Alaska, she dedicated over 20 years of her life helping special needs students. She enjoyed spending her time with her family; she was an excellent cook and found solace in her garden.
Marie is survived by her husband, Clifton of Palmer, Alaska; mother, Willa Dean Hickam of Winston, Oregon; son Chad Morris and his wife Laura of Ringgold, Georgia, and son Toby Morris and his wife Michele Apsey of Palmer, Alaska; sister Marian Stogsdill and her husband Jon; brother Dewayne Hickam and his wife Yung, and brother Raymond Hickam; grandchildren Amanda Baker and her husband Coleton, Natasha Bradford and her husband Tyler Gabrielle Lynn Morris, Dawson Travis Morris and Adley Ray Apsey; great grandson Cash James Baker; and great granddaughter Emory Ada Grey Bradford.
Our family would like to extend our sincere appreciation and gratitude to our cousin, Jeannie Whitlatch of Palmer, Alaska for her love and support during Marie’s long journey.
Marie was preceded in death by her father Chester; son Travis; and sister Leta.
Marie’s life and her legacy will be celebrated in loving memory in a ceremony in the spring. She was loved, she is missed and she is remembered.
