Retiring teacher, coach urges Colony grads to ‘find their 68’

Aaron Wayne Young, 52, died July 25, 2012, at his home in Sutton.
He was born Oct. 21, 1960, in Anchorage and graduated from Palmer High School.
Aaron completed vocational carpentry, served in the U.S. Navy on the Seabees and was an honorably discharged veteran. He was certified and qualified as a driller on oil rigs and was employed as a driller by Kuukpik Drilling at the time of his death. He had more than 30 years of experience in the oil field and had worked in Alaska, Texas and Utah for various companies.
He was on the North Slope a great deal of the time.
His hobbies included hunting and fishing. He was a good carpenter and did most of his auto repair and maintenance. He could fix almost anything.
Aaron was a wonderful father. His children were the joy of his life. Aaron was very good-hearted and was always ready to help his family and many friends. He had a strong work ethic and never quit until finished. He also had a good sense of humor. His kind heart led him on two different occasions to rescue cats, even though he was allergic to cat dander. The family will never be the same without him.
Preceding him in death was his father, Joseph Nile Young; and brother, Zane Young.
Surviving are his mother, Diana Young; sister, Teresa and her son Michael; children, Matthew D. and Darcy A. Young; grandchildren, Justice and Matthew Young; sister-in-law, Regina Sue Young, and her three children, Christy Jones, Edwin Lebron Jones and Joshua Young; and numerous cousins, nephews and nieces.
A celebration of life is at 11 a.m., Aug. 7 at Kehl’s Palmer Chapel, 209 S. Alaska St., Palmer. His ashes will be interred at the Roseburg Veterans National Cemetery in Roseburg, Ore.
The family was taken care of by Legacy Kehl’s Palmer Chapel in Palmer.
