Retiring teacher, coach urges Colony grads to ‘find their 68’

Alan Gordon Olson went to join his beloved Mary Ann on Friday, Aug. 4, 2017. Alan was born Jan. 25, 1945, in Lac Qui Parle, Minnesota.
Alan was preceded in death by his parents, Roy L. Olson and Dagmar Gladys Christianson Olson; brother, Gene Olson; sister, Darlene Olson; and his wife of 42 years, Mary Ann Myers Olson. He is survived by one brother, Curtis (Carolyn) Olson of Willmar, Minnesota; three nieces, Jaclyn Olson, Kim Hyers, and Wendy Norsten, all of Minnesota; two sons, Jeffery Olson Sr. of Gresham, Oregon, and Douglas Olson of Sacred Heart, Minnesota; one step daughter, Sherry (Bill) Myers Blodgett of Kirtland, New Mexico and three step sons; Howard (Colleen) Myers, Ray Myers, and Jody (Terrie) Myers, all of Palmer, Alaska. He is also survived by 15 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren.
Alan was an active member of Palmer Moose Lodge No. 793 and The Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks (BPOE) No. 1842. He ran his own business, Auto Safety Service in Minnesota before coming to Alaska.
Alan and Mary Ann were partners and spent 22 years gold mining above the Arctic Circle in Candle, Alaska. Upon retiring they became official “snow birds” and split their time between Palmer and Yuma, where they had many friends.
Services for Mr. Olson will be held Sunday, Aug. 13, 2017, at 3 p.m. at the Palmer Moose Lodge.
