Alaska Safe Riders trail report

Alaska Safe Riders here with your weekly snow and trail report thanks to support from the Mat-Su Health Foundation and this station.

Warm temperatures and snowmelt throughout the South Central region

have made a mess of things, with current conditions looking more appropriate for ice skates than snowmachines. However, the forecast is calling for highs to drop below freezing this weekend with a chance for a fresh dump of snow.

Turnigan Pass and Summit Lake are reporting considerable avalanche danger. Use caution if your travels are taking you in or near the mountains. Carry the appropriate gear, know how to execute a companion rescue and get the current avalanche and snow conditions at Alaska_Snow-dot-org.

The crew at Alaska Safe Riders has a slate of upcoming training opportunities for the whole family. Join us Saturday December 14 from noon to 4 p.m. for an Avalanche Awareness Rescue Clinic at the Hatcher’s Pass Fishhook Trailhead. Or, check out one of our classes being taught at schools across the Mat-Su. Visit Alaska_Safe_Riders-dot-org for more information.

That’s all for this week. Keep thinking “snow” and tune in next week for more updates and tips.
