Former Wasilla resident Albert F. Anderson passed away suddenly Nov. 20, 2007. He was 62.
Anderson was born Dec. 22, 1939, to Myra and Walter Anderson in Jamestown, N.Y. He moved extensively throughout his life, calling many towns home. His favorite was Wasilla.
After serving in the U.S. Army as a military policeman, Anderson was a public safety officer with the Sunnyvale (Calif.) Public Safety Department, fire chief for the Marinwood (Calif.) Fire Department, a police officer with the Novato (Calif.) Police Department and worked for the fire department at Shasta Junior College, also in California. He then went back to school and graduated in 1977 from Cogswell College in San Francisco and became a safety engineer for the rest of his working career. After moving to Eureka, Calif., in 1978, he volunteered as a reserve deputy with the Humboldt County Sheriff Department.
Anderson and his wife, Frances, recently moved from Wasilla, or the “Great Land,” as he liked to call it, where he enjoyed the outdoors, fishing, playing on his snow toys and adding to his gun and knife collection. He missed his friends and neighbors in Wasilla but was enjoying his children and grandchildren living in the couple’s temporary RV home.
Anderson is survived by his wife, Frances; sisters Marcia (Jim) Kerr of Longview, Wash., and Doreen (Bill) Ginac of Killeen, Texas; the mother of his four children, Leah Anderson of Eureka; sons, Kurt and David (Barbara) Anderson of Eureka; daughters, Jessica (Bob) Christiansen and Amy (Randy) George of Eureka; step-sons, Michael (Kim) Dillon of Holly Springs, N.C., and Patrick Dillon of Roseville, Calif.; and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Anderson was proud to have served his country, so in his honor there was a graveside military service at Ocean View Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Fisher House Foundation Inc.
