Albert (Bert) Lionel LaValley, 69, of Wasilla went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, June 15, 2014. Bert passed away at the Mat-Su Regional Medical Center surrounded by his family.

Born on Aug. 31, 1944, in Lancaster, New Hampshire, Bert was the only son of the late Albert (Abbie) LaValley and Marjorie Brown LaValley of Lunenburg, Vermont.

Bert is survived by his mother, Marjorie LaValley; and his loving and devoted wife, Suzanne Nadeau LaValley of Wasilla; his son, Nate LaValley and wife Roberta Erwin of Anchorage; his daughter, Melissa Anderson and husband, Jon Anderson of Ewa Beach, Hawaii; his two sisters, Marian Ellen Bucklin and Bethany Chase of Lunenburg, Vermont; four grandchildren, Hanna Eddings, Hayden Eddings, Myles LaValley and Marshal LaValley and three step-grandchildren, Mackenzie Sahr, William Sahr and Chance Sahr; an aunt and many nieces and nephews.

He served in the U.S. Army and was honorably discharged. He was employed at Fort Richardson as a civil servant until a disability forced his retirement.

Bert enjoyed woodcarving and attended the Vermont Raptor Academy several times becoming proficient in carving and painting birds. He also had a great interest in antique automobiles and was a member of the Antique Auto Mushers of Alaska.

The family would like to thank the Mat-Su Regional Medical Center nurses, doctors and staff for their loving care and support.

There will be no calling hours. Bert’s wish was to be cremated. A memorial service is at 11 a.m., June 21 at Pilgrim’s Baptist Church, Mile 40.7, Parks Highway, Wasilla, with Pastor Stan Tucker officiating.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the church or to woundedwarriorproject.org.

Arrangements were made by Janssen’s Evergreen Memorial Chapel.
