Retiring teacher, coach urges Colony grads to ‘find their 68’

Wasilla resident Alice May Bankus Anson, 98, died April 27, 2010, at home in Wasilla due to old age. A memorial service will be held Sunday at 11 a.m. at West Valley Family Church of Nazarene, 1300 Ridgecrest Road in Big Lake. Pastor Paul Trissel will officiate.
Alice was born on Feb. 28, 1912, in New Plymouth, Idaho, to John and Mable Bankus. In the spring of 1987, Alice moved to Wasilla and remained there until her passing.
She was employed at a shipyard during World War II in Richmond, Calif., from 1941 to 1945 and then worked at SPD Grocery Store in Nevada City, Calif., until she retired 30 years later.
She was a member of the VFW and the Eastern Star Lodge for 65 years. Some hobbies she enjoyed were doing arts and crafts and quilting, as well as just life in itself.
“Born in 1912, she lived through the Depression, lived to see a man walk the moon and raised three sons, numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. She was a tough ole’ girl who took no guff off anybody. She spoke her mind, was loved by all and will be missed,” her family wrote.
She is survived by her sons, Kenneth M. Jackson and Vincent Neil Jenkins, both of Wasilla; sisters, Etta Richards and Bernice Moffat of California; grandson, Kenneth M. Jackson Jr. of Wasilla; grandson, Vincent John Jenkins of Rexburg, Idaho; granddaughter, Rosa Anna Jackson of Channelview, Texas; granddaughter, Belinda Ann Putman of Roberts, Idaho; granddaughter, Karen Jo Harvey of San Antonio, Texas; grandson, Danny Scott Jenkins of Monticello, Utah; grandson, James Lee Jackson of California; grandson, Kevin Neil Jenkins of Elko, Nev.; grandson, Jamie Ryan Doyle of Oregon; 25 great-grandchildren and eight great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her son, Edward Wayne Doyle.
Arrangements were with Valley Funeral Home and Crematory in Wasilla.
