Retiring teacher, coach urges Colony grads to ‘find their 68’

Alida Mae Ralston, 88, passed away June 12, 2008 at St. Elias Hospital in Anchorage. At her request, no services will be held.
Ralston was born March 10, 1920 to Jesse and Alida Baird in New Philadelphia, Ohio. She resided in Johannesburg, Calif., from 1933 to 1977, moving to the Hayden Lake/Coeur d’ Alene, Idaho, area in 1977. She relocated to Wasilla in 1994 to be near her son.
In her younger years, she was a dental assistant in California. She and her late husband, Ralph, owned and ran the Shell service station in Johannesburg, Calif., until his passing in 1973.
An avid music enthusiast, Ralston was a member of the Sweet Adelines and the Women’s Auxillary. She enjoyed craft making, and teaching crocheting and knitting skills.
Her family wrote “She was an extremely strong woman who was deeply loved by her children, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. She will forever in our hearts.”
Ralston is survived by son and daughter-in law R.E. (Bud) and Darlene Ralston of Palmer; son Donald Ralston of Hurricane, Utah; son and daughter-in-law Carl and Louise Ralston of Wasilla; sister Dorothy Bair of Ohio; grandchildren Robert Ralston, Shirley Proffitt, Angie Alcock, Ryan Ralston, Dennis Ralston, Scott Ralston, Brett Ralston, Debra Pak and Michelle Ray; 18 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
