Leroy was born in Caney, Kansas exactly 87 years to the day before he went to be with his Lord.
He married Lillian, raised four boys, Raymond, Chris, James and Dennis. Leroy was preceded in death by Raymond and Chris. Dennis lives in Kansas and James is in Wyoming.
In 1984, after his divorce, Leroy moved to Alaska.
Leroy was a missionary in the late ‘80’s in West Pokat, Kenya, where he dug water wells, and built churches and schools.
After returning to Knik, Alaska, Leroy attended Sunny Knik Chapel where he met and married Mary Marrs April 20, 2000.
In 2007 Leroy and Mary went to Kenya for four years. There, Hawn International Mission was born. They built churches, schools and a Mission House at Kamkato. Leroy retired in 2013 after building one last church at Unbero.
Leroy acted as Santa Claus for several years at the Menard Christmas Friendship Dinners as well as at the Senior Centers in the Valley.
Leroy hunted elk in Colorado for 17 years and requested that his ashes be spread on Hawn’s Peak.
Leroy shared his faith in the Lord with friends, caregivers and his doctors.
