Retiring teacher, coach urges Colony grads to ‘find their 68’

Andy was 42 years young and lived a life with purpose, serving and protecting members of his community. He was a devoted family man and cared deeply for his family.
Andy joined the Army as a young man in 1999 and medically retired in 2016. Andy served as a combat engineer across the world. After the Army, Andy went into civil services to continue his life’s mission to protect and serve. He served as a DOD Police Sergeant, A Firefighter Engineer at Central Mat-Su, and went on to work in Civil Service with Ham Radio.
Andy leaves behind a daughter, Ciara Nichole Abbott; a son, Colby Jay Adam Abbott; his life partner and friend, Marie Ann Abbott; two grandchildren, Everliegh and Arlo, his pride joy. Andy leaves behind his beloved parents, Allen Sr. and Deborah Abbott; two amazing brothers, Adam Abbott and Allen Abbott; his wingman, Michelle Sturgeon; and his best dog ever, Sergio. Andy leaves behind many coworkers and other friends that he touched throughout his career and life in Alaska. When people remember Andy, they do so with warmth and laughter.
Andy will be laid to rest at Arlington National Cemetery. A Celebration of Life will be held 4:00 p.m. Sunday June 13, 2021, at American Legion Post 15, 1550 Mystic Circle, Palmer, AK 99645.
In lieu of flowers we ask that you reach out to your family and friends and take them fishing in Andy’s memory. Many people close to Andy knew the struggles he faced with PTSD and healing from trauma. If you know a First Responder struggling, please reach out and be the rock in their corner.
