Anna (Kasia) Owens, age 58 of Palmer, passed away on Thursday, Aug. 31, 2017. She was born to Antoni and Maria Moraiko in Katowice, Poland on April 2, 1959. Kasia, along with her parents and brother Woytek, relocated to Chicago, Illinois, from Poland in 1969. She graduated from Wheeling High School, Chicago – Class of 1980. Married in 1988, Kasia settled her family in Palmer, Alaska. Kasia very much appreciated the comforts of home where she held the ultimate responsibility of raising four children and a small farm in Palmer for over 20 years.
She was an active member in the community; volunteering her time at the Palmer Senior Center and dedicated the latter part of her life to a career of helping others as a personal care aide.
Those who knew Kasia, knew how big her heart was for her friends, family and pets. She was a true animal lover and cared for a wide variety of pets throughout her life. She enjoyed being outdoors — making the most of the midnight sun by gardening, spending time by the river, and partook in some memorable camping trips. Decorating, art, music, and household projects were Kasia’s delight. She was a very unique, talented and creative individual who could use the color pink to make just about anything better.
Kasia is survived by her husband, Michael Owens, of Palmer, Alaska; her son, Michael Dean and his wife Alissa Dean; daughters, Kassie Andrews and her husband Nathan Andrews, Kttie Owens, Kcie Owens; her grandchildren, Kaden Dean and Kenton Andrews; her mother, Maria Moraiko; her brother, sister in-law Woytek and Carol Moraiko (Passowic); her father in-law, Jerry Owens; brother, sister in-law Joel and Trina Owens; sister, brother-in-law Laurie and Sherman Payne. She leaves behind her two adored pet Pugs Gi-Gi and Boo, as well as her terrier puppy, Samm Owens. Kasia is preceded in death by her infant son, Kory Owens; father, Antoni Moraiko; mother-in-law, Tike Owens; grandparents; Irena and Jozef Stano.
In lieu of flowers, a donation in Kasia’s name can be made to the Mat-Su Animal Shelter. A memorial service will be held at Janssen’s Mat-Su Funeral Home on Sept. 13, 2017 at 11:30 a.m. Interment will be at Palmer Pioneer Cemetery. A reception at the Palmer Caboose Lounge will follow the interment. Arrangements are with Janssen's Mat-Su Funeral Home.
