Annie H. Luginbill-Olson, 93, passed away April 29, 2010, at Mat-Su Regional Medical Center in Palmer.
Annie was from a large family of 12 children. Her parents migrated from Russia and settled in Oregon. Annie Luginbill-Olson was born Oct. 20, 1916, in Portland, Ore.
Annie worked at Tacoma Shipyard from 1943 to 1946, then she worked at the Almond Roca Candy Factory from 1947 to 1981, retiring after 34 years.
Annie moved to Alaska in 1984, married Bob Olson and together they built a house in Wasilla. They celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary last year. Every year Bob and Annie traveled Outside to a family reunion in Oregon and Annie always kept in touch with friends from the candy factory.
Bob and Annie loved dancing and are lifetime members of the Paws and Taws Square Dance Club. On Annie’s 90th birthday, Bob hosted a party and more than 200 square dance friends came from all over the state to celebrate.
Annie was very talented at crochet and knitting, she was very thoughtful of other people and always making little handmade gifts for the holidays. Annie belonged to the Volunteers of America and knitted many hats for the armed forces and the warm-up club.
Annie is survived by her husband, Bob Olson, one brother, Walter Hordichok of Oregon and many nieces and nephews throughout the Lower 48.
Annie made lots of friends; she dearly loved children, but had none of her own. Annie was a very special lady and loved by many.
Annie requested no memorial service be held, but any donations to Alzheimer’s Resource of Alaska, P.O. Box 4406, Palmer, AK 99645 would be greatly appreciated.
