Longtime Alaska resident Arlie J. West, 75, died March 15, 2011, at her home in Wasilla.
Per her request, no services will be held. She has donated her body to research. Her ashes will be spread with her husband and family friend, Gene.
Arlie was born July 27, 1935, to Albert and Muriel Kirk in Butte, S.D. She married Floyd F. West on Oct. 17, 1952, in Newell, S.D. She came to Anchorage with her husband and children in March 1963. She worked as a special needs school bus attendant for the Anchorage School District. She retired and moved to Talkeetna to enjoy her boys, grandkids and retirement.
In retirement, she enjoyed doing puzzles, liquid embroidery, making quilts, knitting and crocheting. But she hated doing firewood (family joke). Arlie enjoyed her time with her friends Betty and Joe Beauchamp, Sandy and Gene Borgan, and Art and Eve Manginelli.
Arlie was preceded in death by her husband, Floyd.
She is survived by her son and daughter in-law, Daniel and Carolyn West of Talkeetna; sons, Curt West of Talkeetna, Jerry West of Buckley, Wash., and Scott West of Anchorage; grandchildren, Cory, Cassi, Shirley, James, Karlie, Jake, Tammy, Larry, Jody, Pat and Bill; sisters, Charolette and Posie; and brother, Gary.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Arlie’s memory to Mat-Su Hospice, 950 East Bogard Rd. Suite 132, Wasilla, AK 99654.
Arrangements were by Valley Funeral Home.
