Entries sought for 2013 Fur Rondy pin design

ANCHORAGE — Artists have until noon, May 25 to submit designs for the 2013 Fur Rondy Pin design competition.

Artists are invited to submit original designs that reflect the spirit of this premier winter festival, set for Feb. 22 to March 3, 2013. The selected design will be featured on the 2013 collector series pins and merchandise.

The selected artist will have a place in Alaska and Rondy history and 10 days of “fame” — being featured in the Official Rondy Guide and website and in Rondy media placements. Additionally the artist will ride in the Rondy Grand Parade, receive selected merchandise and represent Rondy as the 2013 collector series artist.

Information and entry forms are available at furrondy.net.

Native Arts Foundation offers fellowships

Artists have until June 21 to apply for the Native Arts and Culture Foundation’s 2013 Artist Fellowships.

Through the fellowship program, the foundation seeks to foster the creativity of indigenous artists, allowing the opportunity for study, reflection, experimentation and discovery. Last year, the first year of the Artist Fellowship Program, artist applicants had to be nominated. This year, the foundation is not requiring applicants to be nominated.

Awards of $20,000 will be made in six disciplines — visual arts, filmmaking, music, dance, literature and traditional arts. For more information, visit nacf.us/2013_Grants.
