Retiring teacher, coach urges Colony grads to ‘find their 68’

Barbara Jean Tallman, 67, died of cancer Sept. 8, 2013, at Among Friends Assisted Living Home in Palmer.
Barbara was born April 10, 1946, in Pensacola, Fla., and moved with her family to Alaska in 1952. She graduated from West High School with the class of 1964 and attended Orange Coast College in California with the class of 1967.
She worked for the Anchorage School District as a school bus driver for 11 years, Walsh construction in Adak as a truck driver for three seasons, the Trans-Alaska pipeline for three seasons, dispatch as Teamster No. 959, operator of Christmas tree lots, owner/operator of fireworks stands in the Mat-Su Borough and was owner/operator of the family gravel pit in Anchorage for 25 years.
Barbara was an avid gardener, enjoyed reading, camping, traveling, downhill/cross-country skiing, 35mm photography, rock hunting and hiking in Alaska and Hawaii.
Surviving are her brother, Jon Tallman of Hawaii; aunt, Anna Renda of Florida; son, Jon Chandler of Washington; nieces, Angela Hermannes of Missouri, Julia Tallman of Hawaii, Jenna Tallman of Alaska, Rani Tallman of Hawaii, Shawna Tallman of Hawaii, Gina Tallman of Colorado and Leanna Tallman of Colorado; nephews, Paul Tallman of Oregon, James Tallman of Hawaii and Nick Tallman of Texas; three great-nieces, Kiara, Ava and Savanna; and six great-nephews, Sebastian, Keahi, Zeke, Oliver, Liam and Eli
Arrangements are with Alaskan Heritage Memorial Chapel and Crematory, Wasilla.
