Barbara Lenore DeGrave Thurman, 89, of Palmer died Nov. 5, 2011, surrounded by her family.

Barbara was born Feb. 16, 1922, in Yakima, Wash., to Roy and Lenore “Betty” (Brown) DeGrave.

Barb was known for being loyal and generous to a fault, her quick wit and her beauty. When she made up her mind it was wise not to get in her way. After raising her three sons, she returned to college and completed her master’s degree in psychology. Barb enjoyed her 20 years working with her students. Barb enjoyed her flower garden and raising roses and rhododendrons.

Barbara is survived by her three sons, Rodney Allen Young and Georgia of Oroville, Wash., Gary Roy Young and Donna of Palmer and Mark Steven Young and Nina of Renton, Wash.; grandchildren, Lisa Hibbert, Micole Gonzales, Kali Macalino, Christine Rogers, Rebekah (sister Efpraxia) Young, Jess Woelfel, Cory Young and Aaron Young; stepchildren, Russell Michael Thurman and Pam of Kennewick, Wash., Barbara Babbit and Paul of Poway, Calif., and Myles Thurman of Lakeside, Calif.; twin brother, Bernard DeGrave and Cecelia of Vancouver, Wash.; and 14 great-grandchildren.

Services are at 3 p.m., Nov. 14 at Kehl’s Palmer Chapel with a visitation at 2:30 p.m.
