Retiring teacher, coach urges Colony grads to ‘find their 68’

Lifelong Palmer resident Benjamin David Loyer, 49, died Oct. 5, 2012.
A celebration of life is at 2 p.m., Oct. 13, at American Legion Post 15 on Outer Springer Loop in Palmer.
Ben was born Jan. 13, 1963, in Palmer at the old Valley Hospital to Fred and Margaret (Lou) Loyer. He was a grandson of original 1935 Matanuska Valley colonists Joseph and Naomi Loyer.
He was part of the 1981 Palmer High School Class and earned his GED that year. He married Teri (Worledge) in 1985, and they raised their three sons — Kyle, Aaron and Steven — in Palmer.
Fun-loving Ben enjoyed the company of other people and knew no strangers. He also loved making rounds to the local coffee stands with his beloved dogs.
Pastimes included fixing bikes, cars and playing football and baseball with his sons and their friend, Sam Webber. He was very involved in motocross racing and prided himself on being his sonsʼ mechanic. He was a real Alaskan who enjoyed all outdoor activities with family and friends.
He was employed by Cruz Construction and was a member of Local Laborers Union 341 and Operating Engineers Local 302.
Surviving are his wife, Teri; sons, Kyle (Courtney), Aaron (Crystal), Steven (Danielle); father, Fred Loyer; mother, Margaret (Lou) and husband Larry Townsend; sisters, Charlotte (Scott) and Anja Roloff (Scott); brothers, Joe Loyer and Tony Townsend; uncles, James, Victor, Kenneth, Rick and Dennis Loyer, and Bob and Gus Amos; aunts, Dorothy Hubbard, Rita Loyer, Janice Svoboda, Willene Estes and Punky Little; and nieces, nephews many cousins and family, with special mention to his mother-in-law, Sally Worledge.
Preceding him in death were his grandparents, Naomi and Joseph Loyer; uncle, Gary Loyer; aunt, Norma Benson; and cousins, Naomi and Rochelle Loyer.
The family asks that donations be made to Valley Charities, 400 N. Yenlo St., Wasilla.
