Beryl Othella Young, 91, died Sept. 28, 2012, at her son’s home in Glennallen.

Pastor Davis and Laura Hobson officiated at a funeral service Oct. 2 at Valley Funeral Home. A viewing precede the services.

Beryl was born Oct. 28, 1920, in Eudora, Ark., to Victor and Nora Mathis.

Beryl grew up in Eudora on a ranch where she discovered a passion for horses with her sister Norma by her side.

Beryl became an Alaska resident with her husband and four children when they made Gakona their homestead in 1967. They lived there for 10 years. She has lived in many other cities in Alaska, including Kenny Lake for 10 years, Fairbanks for one year, and Wasilla and Anchorage for 20 years.

She had four children, 20 grandchildren, 33 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. Beryl was a devout Christian and loved the lord. She was a member of Anchorage Baptist Temple. Beryl enjoyed sewing, making quilts and loved to fish with her family.

Surviving are her sister, Norma T. Ullrich of Dublin, Ohio; sons, Harvel H. Young of Meyers Lake, Victor R. Young of Tulsa, Okla., and Rickey D. Young of Glennallen; and daughter, Norma Carol Hand of Copper Center.

Preceding her in death was her husband, Harvel P. Young; her father, Victor Talmage Mathis; and her mother, Nora Othella Mathis.
