Betty Jane Day Bohman, longtime resident of the Palmer area, passed away peacefully in her home on Wednesday, Aug. 20.

Betty was born on Halloween in 1923 in Tooele, Utah and was approaching her 91st birthday. She married to K Daryl Bohman on June 19, 1945. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Idaho Falls, Idaho LDS Temple.

The family moved to Alaska in January 1962 where Betty worked as a nurse at the old Palmer Hospital. They moved from Palmer and lived in Idaho, but returned to Palmer in 1994.

Betty was active in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and held many offices and positions in that Church. She and Daryl served two years working as missionaries in Jamaica. Betty had a strong belief and testimony of Jesus Christ and left a note for her family expressing that belief.

Betty is survived by her children, William (Cam), Richard (Trina), Barbara Spafford (Bill) and Brian (GayLynn); 22 grandchildren; 35 and counting great grandchildren; a sister, Merci Nickerson; and a brother, Larry Day. She was preceded in death by her husband Daryl, and her brother James Day.

Services are at noon, Aug. 30 in the Palmer LDS Chapel. There will be a viewing at the Palmer LDS Chapel starting at 10:30 a.m. prior to the services. Interment will be in the Fort Richardson Cemetery at a later date.
