Betty Jane Schroeder-Moffitt, 90, died Aug. 30, 2013, at the Alaska Veterans and Pioneers Home in Palmer.

A celebration of life is at 2 p.m., Oct. 12 at Lazy Mountain Bible Church in Palmer, with a reception following.

Betty was born Aug. 7, 1923, in Seattle, Wash., to Elmer Henry and Margaret (Westerman) Schroeder. She graduated from Queen Anne High School in 1941. Betty came to Alaska in 1947, becoming a permanent resident in 1949. She worked for the Alaska Railroad, Alaska Airlines, Alaska Sales and Service and Union Oil. Betty married Leonard Earl Moffitt on Dec. 14, 1952. They co-owned and operated Moffitt Dairy farm in Palmer from 1946 to 1986.

Her family wrote, “Betty Schroeder-Moffitt adventurously moved to the frontier territory of Alaska. There, Betty met Leonard Moffitt and married into a dairy farming family. She was a devoted and industrious wife, mother, grandmother and godmother. Betty worked with Leonard on the farm, doing the bookwork and payroll, as well as all the cooking for her family and the hired hands. She successfully raised five active children while being very involved in many social organizations (Highway Church of God; Women of the Moose Chapter 942; Emblem Club No. 338; Pioneers of Alaska Aux. 11; Mat-Su Republican Women’s Club; and Christian Business Woman’s Club) and with her hobbies. Betty was active in her church and maintained a personal relationship with Jesus.

“Betty was a loyal friend and maintained long-term close relationships with childhood friends, her many Alaska friends as well as family members. Betty suffered through the devastating changes wrought by Alzheimer’s disease, living almost 10 years in the Palmer Veterans and Pioneers Home. There she received exemplary and compassionate care. We are very grateful to the employees of the Pioneers Home for their dedicated assistance. We will see Betty again ‘Somewhere over the rainbow.’”

Surviving are her daughters and their spouses, Linda Moffitt (Candace Hiner) of Anchorage, Dianne (Scott) Johnson of Palmer and Wendy (Aaron) Hanson of Wasilla; sons, Steven Moffitt of Cordova and Tracy (Kathy) Moffitt of Palmer; step-daughter, Lisa (John) Ruccidlo of Phoenix, Ariz.; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and two nieces, Maureen Alewine of Rockville, Md., and Christine Schroeder of Mill Creek, Wash.

Preceding her in death were her husband; parents; and brother, Donald Wesley Schroeder.
