Beverly Jo Wallis, 61, passed away June 29, 2010, at her home in Palmer, from complications associated with diabetes. Per her request, no services will be held.
Mrs. Wallis was born Sept. 28, 1948 in Waco, Texas, to Joseph and Stella (Shelton) Gilliam. In 1955, she arrived in Tok and lived there until 2005, when, due to health issues, she moved to Palmer to be with her son. Mrs. Wallis worked for the state of Alaska until she retired in the early 1990s. She enjoyed working with computers, doing crafts, and making dolls.
“Beverly enjoyed her life,” her family stated. “She was devoted to her husband and son. She spent her last few years missing the love of her life, Wally, and it brought her great comfort to know she would be joining him again soon.”
Her wish was for any money that would have been spent on flowers or cards to go in her name to the American Diabetes Association, 801 W. Fireweed No. 103, Anchorage, AK 99503, in the hopes that someday a cure can be found to prevent others from going through the same struggle she did.
Mrs. Wallis is survived by her son, Jim Wallis, and his partner, Shawn Bolam, of Palmer.
She was preceded in death by her father, Joseph Gilliam, in 1982; mother, Stella Gilliam, in 1987, and husband, Norman Wallis, in 2002.
Her ashes will be buried at the Tok Cemetery in Tok.
Arrangements were with Valley Funeral Home and Crematory in Wasilla.
