Retiring teacher, coach urges Colony grads to ‘find their 68’

Bill Mike Mikell Jr., 67, resident of Wasilla passed away in his sleep on the morning of Feb. The only child of Della Mitchell (deceased), Bill was born on May 18, 1941 in Lake City, Fla. He became a highly certified welder, working for Padgett-Swan Machinery in Tampa, Fla., until his retirement. During his years as a welder he worked on many esteemed projects such as the construction of the Alaska pipeline and working on the space shuttle at Cape Canaveral. Bill was a master mason and a 32nd Degree Scottish Rite.
Bill is survived by his children William Mikell, Stephan Mikell and Kathleen Mikell-Conely. His sons will always value the lessons he taught them: to work hard, be honorable and be respectful. His daughter will always remember growing up dancing with her father and the work ethic he instilled in her.
He is predeceased by his mother Della Mitchell, August 2007, stepfather Burley “Mitch” Mitchell, July 1984 and daughter-in-law Julie Mikell, March 2008. A Masonic service will be held Saturday at the Masonic Lodge in Palmer, 122 S. Cobb, at 1 p.m.
