Billie Jo Schulz, 87, was surrounded by family Aug. 7, 2014, when she passed peacefully at her home in Big Lake.
She was born on Nov. 11, 1926, in Wheeler, Texas, to William and Lola Lewis.
She married Charles Schulz prior to moving to Alaska in the early 1940s. They settled, initially in Anchorage, but eventually moved to Eagle River where they started raising their family. Billie worked side-by-side with her husband in their business, Eagle River Plumbing and Heating in Eagle River. In early 1960, the family moved to Big Lake to their new homestead.
In addition to working in the family business in Eagle River, Billie was a real estate agent in the Valley working at Century 21. Later in life, she was also the coordinator at the Wasilla Senior Citizen Center.
Billie was a two-time breast cancer survivor.
She was a social butterfly and loved to party — meaning she thoroughly enjoyed a festive occasion. She loved to dance and very much enjoyed country music. Billie’s husband used to sponsor a bowling team in Eagle River. As a result, she was an avid bowler and sported a “300” trophy — meaning she once bowled a perfect score. She loved time fishing and boating with her husband. Her most memorable times were family gatherings and activities.
Preceding her in death were her parents and her husband.
Surviving are her children, Pamela Mundt (Alan), Jerome Schulz (Sherry), and William Schulz and William’s best friend/brother, who came to live with them in junior high — Frank Gomes; grandchildren, Lorinda Howard, Jeremy Schulz, Amberly Schulz, Chanz Mundt and Corey Schulz; and nine great grandchildren.
Funeral arrangements were made by son, William, with the help of Alaskan Heritage Memorial and the Wasilla Bible Church. A funeral ceremony is at 1 p.m., Aug. 23, at the Wasilla Bible Church, 1651 Nicola Ave., in Wasilla; followed by a burial service at Wasilla Aurora Cemetery. A celebration of life potluck is planned at 4 p.m. at the Wasilla Bible Church.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Alzheimer’s Resource of Alaska (907) 561-3313.
