MAT-SU — Volunteers are needed to help with the Food Bank of Alaska’s third annual Valley Thanksgiving Blessing. Food distribution is planned at six local churches from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Nov. 17.
Valley Thanksgiving Blessing is a public event where families in need receive a turkey and all the trimmings for a Thanksgiving meal through a partnership between Food Bank of Alaska and the faith community. The collaboration expects to serve about 2,000 families this year. The locations for this year’s Valley Thanksgiving Blessing are:
• Faith Bible Fellowship — Mile 2.5, Big Lake Road, Big Lake. Contact 892-8545.
• Fellowship Lutheran Church — Mile 1.1, Peterville Road, Trapper Creek.
• Good Shepherd Lutheran Church — 501 Bogard Road, Wasilla. Contact 376-3522.
• Real Life Church — Mile 2, Palmer-Wasilla Highway. Contact 745-5673.

Get involved
• Organize your church, temple or office to collect food. Food Bank of Alaska suggests collecting a single item per group (i.e. set a goal of 1,000 cans of corn).
• Donate funds: $10 will buy a turkey; $40 will buy a complete Thanksgiving dinner.
• Volunteers to help set-up and distribute food on Nov. 17.
