Retiring teacher, coach urges Colony grads to ‘find their 68’

Bonita was born 21 August 1944 to Donald and Edith Newbraugh in Morgantown WV where she grew up. She moved to California in 1962 where she met Robert Larsen, fell in love and married in 1963. Robert and Bonita moved to Alaska in 1976 and made a home and raised their family. Bonita was a homemaker, she and Robert made many friends and especially enjoyed fishing trips and glacier watching. Bonita loved serving as a volunteer at the Palmer Senior Center, giving of her time faithfully. She volunteered for the Special Olympics. There wasn’t an animal she wouldn’t take in and love for years. She also loved flowers.
Bonita is survived by Robert Larsen, her husband of 54 years, son Robert Larsen Jr. (Elizabeth) of Kenai, 3 daughters; Trena Helmberger (Dave) of Spokane WA, Sheri Larsen (Allen) of Wasilla, and Linda Burks (Dave) of Palmer and numerous grandkids and great-grandkids. Bonita leaves behind many family and friends in California and West Virginia.
A service celebrating her life will be Saturday, 26 January 2019, at Wasilla Bible Church at 11 a.m. with a reception to follow.
