Born on Dec. 6, 1966, in Tacoma, Washington, Brian grew up in University Place, and attended school at St. Charles Borromeo and Bellarmine Preparatory High School. He graduated from the University of Washington and then earned his Juris Doctorate at Mississippi College in Jackson, Mississippi. Brian returned to Tacoma when he finished law school.

He served the 29th District as a State Representative for two terms. Brian enlisted in the Army National Guard while in law school. He later was commissioned an officer and served in the Army Reserves before moving to Fort Wainwright, near Fairbanks for active duty in April 2001. In 2004, Brian moved to Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri, and from there spent a year in Guantanamo Bay. The family returned to Alaska and was stationed at Fort Richardson in December 2005. As a Major at Fort Richardson, he was deployed to Iraq. When he left the Army, he had a private law practice in Palmer before moving to Barrow in May 2012 to work as an assistant district attorney for the state of Alaska.

Brian is survived by his mother, Madeleine; his sister, Maura; daughters, Molly, Anne Rose and Madeleine, whom he shared with his former wife, Julie.

His father, Albert, preceded him in death.

A memorial service is at 11 a.m., Dec. 27 at Bellarmine Preparatory High School in Tacoma.
