Retiring teacher, coach urges Colony grads to ‘find their 68’

Bruce C. Marden, Sr., 49, of Palmer, died June 19 in Delta Junction.
He was born in Ohio on May 8, 1961, the son of Glenn and Lydia Marden. They moved to Palmer where he graduated from Palmer High School. Bruce worked in the environmental remediation field for Environmental Compliance Company of Anchorage.
Bruce had a big heart and always helped friends, family and those in need. He demonstrated his kindness all over Alaska. During his time in Delta Junction, Bruce drove to Fairbanks with his wife, Penny, to deliver food for the food bank. He was recently honored with the Golden Heart Award for his service to the food bank. Bruce volunteered with the Girl Scouts and was a Boy Scout Leader for many years. He spent his free time motorcycling and spending time with family and friends around bonfires. He also considered protesting taxes a hobby. Bruce brought humor to any situation. His heart was bigger than life itself.
Bruce is survived by his wife, Alberta “Penny” (LaDrigue) Marden of Palmer; daughter, Amy and her husband Mykel Parker of Utah; son, Bruce Marden, Jr. and his wife Nicole of Delta Junction; grandson, Cameron Marden; mother, Lydia Peterson of Palmer; brothers, Frank Marden of Palmer, Roger Marden of Eastpoint, Mich., and John Marden of Palmer; sisters, Cathy Gick of Palmer and Cheryl Krueger of Harbor Beach, Mich.; and many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his father, Glenn Marden, Sr., and brothers, David Marden and Glenn Marden, Jr.
Bruce’s life and legacy will be celebrated at a memorial gathering and bonfire today at 3 p.m., at 12000 E. Soapstone Rd. near Palmer.
