Unit One of the Burnt Butte Personal Use Firewood Harvest Area, located on the Plumley Maude Trail, is open for harvest until all available wood has been removed. This area is designated as personal use only for harvest of Matanuska-Susitna Borough forest resources. A $25 permit is required to harvest firewood and permits may be obtained from the Land and Resource Management Division from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday at the Mat-Su Borough Administration Building, located at 350 E. Dahlia Avenue, Palmer.
People must have their permits with them while onsite harvesting wood. The cost for each cord of wood is $25 with a maximum of three cords per household per year from the Matanuska-Susitna Borough.
