WASILLA — Capstone Clinic recently launched a homegrown mobile site slated to become a full-fledged smartphone application called COVID Secure, which was designed by medical clinicians across the state.
COVID Secure allows advanced patient testing, notification, and observation tracking with advanced reporting tools. The site was designed to suit real-world healthcare needs, offering an array of tools to track and report COVID-19 cases.
Capstone Clinic in Alaska founder Dr. Wade Erickson led this technological endeavor, hiring highly-skilled, local tech developers to expedite the creation of this powerful and effective online application. He was happy to report the app is already exceeding their expectations.
Erickson said they’ve been working on the project since April and he’s excited about the widespread capabilities of this new platform. He said the implementation of this technology fits in nearly all work and government applications, which will be particularly convenient for schools, health care facilities, and travel sectors.
“It sort of grew organically which is kind of nice...It morphed into something bigger and more robust as each entity signed on. It’s quite an idea at this point, quite an amazing piece of software. It’s elegant and super efficient, which is what COVID demands because everything has to be fast with COVID. There isn’t an app out there that does the entire spectrum of COVID like this one does,” Erickson said.
COVID Secure was developed to be a comprehensive solution for widespread use ranging from individuals and families to entries small and large. With students back in school amid a pandemic, Erickson said they’re currently working the Mat-Su School District and plan to work with as many districts across the state as possible.
“We really want to help our local schools,” Erickson said. “That’s the main reason for launching in a hurry.”
COVID Secure is currently available online with a mobile site available for smartphones and other devices. Erickson said the full-fledged applications will be released to the Apple’s App Store and Google Play very soon. He said their team is going to stay on top of all changes and innovations to make the best possible experience they can.
“This app will never be done,” Erickson said with a laugh.
Capstone Clinic was the first private medical clinic in Alaska to offer on-site COVID-19 testing through its mobile-care units in early 2020, eventually expanding to airports and commercial fishing centers across the state.
